Syracuse, New York, Sept. 22, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Syracuse, NY (Sept. 22, 2022) — The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways (GSNYPENN) Council announces the launch of a new subscription box service, GirlCratery ™, organized for girls from 5 to 11 years old. This unique program costs just $99 (including shipping) for a three-month subscription. Other subscriptions are available and customers can purchase past crates separately for $28.99 (plus S&H) at www.girlcratery.org.

Subscribers are called “cratologists”. Crate contents contain all the necessary items for fun and creative play while developing STEAM skills and building self-confidence. Subscribers receive a surprise crate mailed to their doorstep every month. Intro cases include various themes such as bustles, baking, camping, jewelry making, geocaching, and road trips.

“The goal is to provide a fun dive into the theme, actively challenging and rewarding girls for learning new skills,” says Amanda Coyle, GSNYPENN’s eCommerce Program Manager and Head of GirlCratery. “A fun patch and personalized stickers are a great way to commemorate skills learned. Anyone who runs kids’ shows will appreciate the convenience of individually packaged projects in to-go crates.

“GirlCratery brings the magic of discovery to school-aged children,” says Julie Dale, CEO of GSNYPENN. “While there are several child-themed boxes on the market, we offer the excitement of novelty and the element of surprise. Our subscription allows children to try something different each month, expanding their interests.”

Kids can complete GirlCratery projects independently or share the fun as a family. A subscription makes a great gift for busy parents and the individual cases make great birthday presents with everything needed to complete the activity in one box.

In addition to generating revenue for the GSNYPENN Council, the program works by integrating with local community partners. The crates are assembled, packed and inventoried with a team from ARC d’Onondaga, a local organization whose mission is to help people with intellectual disabilities reach their full potential. Partnerships with small local businesses are formed to source more box contents locally. Girls who are members of local GSNYPENN middle and high schools will soon be working towards earning entrepreneurial badges by actively learning what it takes to run a subscription box service.

“The best part of Girl Scouts is that we lead by example,” says Wendy Cobrda, GSNYPENN’s Director of Marketing and Strategy. “We encourage girls to use every opportunity as a learning experience; fail forward. Our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, would be happy if we opened this service to non-members. Her dearest wish was for all girls to develop skills to become better people and citizens, and to be aware of their ability to impact the world around them.

By involving the community and GSNYPENN members in the GirlCratery business, girls learn that there are many ways to bring ideas to life. For Girl Scouts, these skills begin when they are young and with participation in annual produce and fall cookie fundraising programs and continue with new programs like GirlCratery.

With free project instructions posted monthly on the GirlCratery website, a free membership also offers great value. This offering allows the GSNYPENN Council to provide service to all families with young children, regardless of their membership status.

As a non-profit organization, all revenue generated from this new venture supports GSNYPENN Council programming and scholarships for activities. To find out how to become a GirlCratery partner or supplier, contact Amanda at [email protected] or 315.238.8818.
