Meet the artists: opening weekend conferences

A weekend celebrating the creativity of Western Australia.
In The view from here, The Art Gallery of Western Australia presents its largest exhibition of Western Australian art ever, with 30 major new commissions, exhibitions and acquisitions from leading Western Australian artists and designers.
The exhibition captures the perspectives of a diverse group of artists, from renowned and iconic artists of the state’s Western Desert and Kimberley, to emerging artists, many from non-traditional artistic backgrounds, to established artists from Australia. Westerner working here and elsewhere.
During the opening weekend, join several of the The view from here artists who talk about their work and their practice. These informal discussions and pop-up sessions will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
The new AGWA Rooftop and Bar will be open from 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday.

AGWA Rooftop: Opening weekend

A weekend celebrating the creativity of Western Australia.
Over the opening weekend, join us on AGWA’s new rooftop with live music from 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and a free art class from 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The AGWA rooftop bar will be open from 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday.

Join WA artist Andy Quilty for a free art class at the bar and try your hand at drawing Perth city skyline.
Artist biography
Andy Quilty is a multidisciplinary artist engaged in the experience, documentation and questioning of societal anxieties around crime in a suburban context. Quilty is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Arts at the University of Western Australia, Patron of the Australia Military Arts Program, a non-profit that helps military veterans through art therapy, and works throughout the state by facilitating art workshops in schools, penitentiaries, community groups and Aboriginal Art Centers.
